Hi All,

I have been offered a set of tools for my 1989 S4

I am keen to know what tools should be in the tool tray mounted on the rear hatch area

Does anyone have a tool list or can provide a photo

£35 for a set of tools sounds good if they are all there

Cheers

Neil

Well it stopped raining long enough for me to take some photos for you:

Here's a complete tooltray from an 84:

And and incomplete one from a 90:

Common to both is pliers, sparkplug tool, five spanners, towing eye, screwdriver and screwdriver blade (you swap the handle between the two).
The only difference I can see is that in the 90 the lowest position on the right hand side doesn't contain an extra screwdriver blade and I believe it should have a type of crank handle which is used for manually operating the sunroof and electric seats. Whether this is because the 90 has a sunroof and the 84 doesn't, or whether this is a change common to all later cars I don't know.

If you want a full set of bits then there's also the wheel wrench that isn't stored behind the panel, a jack, a compressor to inflate the spare and a warning triangle. Also I believe the cars also originally came with a set of disposable gloves and a plastic bag to put the replaced wheel into so that it didn't dirty the interior of your pride and joy, but most are long gone.

Whilst a full tool kit completes the car, in reality the only part you probably don't already have a substitute for is the towing eye.

Fantastic pictures, it would be great to know more about the seat /sunroof handle and what this looks like as I do need to remove my seat to fix the electric pcb bad solder joints. Not easy to move the seat when electrics don't work so the manual handle will come in very useful.

Many thanks for your help, I'll send to the seller to see if the set is complete

cheers
Neil

Well there's an incomplete set on ebay at the moment, already at £39 so perhaps £35 for a full set is a good deal.

That was the set I was offered, but the bits I want are missing and I was offered for £35 inclusive, but I don't need the panel just the tools, so it is not for me.

Win-win situation then, you haven't wasted your money on an incomplete set and the seller is getting more by putting them on ebay. Having said that, I'm surprised how high the price has gone (now at £51 and still a few hours to go).
