Suddenly stopped working, driving home one night. Fuses ok. Bulbs. ok. All three relays are opening & closing, headlights go up ok, Flasher lights work on auxilliary lower lights, have done independant test with bulb & battery with wires from pin board to headlights & all light up.
Does anyone know if or where the micro switch is in the system for the delay in headlight light up to allow the lights to come up horizontally before switching on. Cannot see anything under the bonnet or in the nearside wheel arch (splash trays removed). Any suggestions gratefully received.
If it is built into the relay, don't want to get a new one at £90, until sure all the circuit is ok.
Many thanks in advance.

Hi Jezza,

What do you mean by "all 3 relays are open and closing" and how did you test this? The lighting is controlled by a single double relay.

The switch to signal to the relay that the headlights are raised is a semicircular contact in the headlight motor itself.

So the motor assembly may be at fault, but more likely problem in the main lighting relay. Can you get hold of a known working on for your MY to test in place of your existing relay?

Hi :)

Advice i always used to give when running the PCGB Forum to headlight problems on any 928 is..... Its ALWAYS the relay ...I repeat ALWAYS lol....

I learnt that the hard way , after stripping motors, linkages etc etc for HOURS...new relay all cured :(

Worth paying that silly amount that Porsche charge for a new one as they all pack up eventually, so not worth buying second hand...

As Adrian says its worth swapping in another if you know a 928 owner near you...come to sunny Bournemouth and borrow mine if you wish....

All the best Brett :)

Is there a chance that it could be the switch?

Whilst the system is different in a 944 I know that a new switch cured a couple of issues after I burned the switch out in mine (dash lights would not light up on the dipped beam setting all of the time and sometimes the headlights did not work).
