Hi - my 944 turbo has developed a very loud virating noise from underneath. It only starts at 3000 revs & goes when the clutch is depressed. This is at standstill in neutral. It does whilst travelling but since it started I've been afraid to drive it in case I did some major damage.
I wondered if it might be the torque tube as I can't think of anything else. The car has done 160k but I've only had it for 9 months so am not sure what happened to it in the past.
The noise started all of a sudden & when underneath I can't place where it coming from.
Any one any ideas please.
If it is the torque tube any ideas on where to get one & how to replace it.
thanks
Glen

Pretty comon place for the torque tube bearings to rattle. It would be very unusual for it to break, they seem to rattle for ever.

The replacement part is fairly cheap but the labour to fit it stings a bit.

Yup agree with Sean could well be Torque tube. Easy way is to get a good s/h one although they can be dismantled & rebuilt (although not recommended by Porsche). Big job though as gearbox will need to come out to get it in & out. At the same time I'd do the clutch.

mmm - sounds expensive!!!
any chance it could be something else causing the vibration before I get myself involved in a big job?

Also if it is this has anyone any tips on where to get the parts inc clutch & should I be getting any other bits replaced at the same time.
thanks
Glen

Call Jon Mitchell Garage and have chat with them. He'll definately have some good advice and may even have a second hand one in one of his many stock piles of bits. http://www.jmgarage.com/ 01202488800 Could save you money or at least confirm what you should be looking at.

Good luck

Andy
