Ok the 944 I was buying may have fallen through so I might have to start over.

I was wondering what owners thought of as essential "Extras" to look for?

Personally I'd be looking for an oval dash car, post 85 1/2. After 87 some improvements took place but whether it's significant or not is debatable.
Otherwise I'd worry about condition more than options. Typically standard ones are;- rear luggage blind, sunroof, leather bound steering wheel. Rare options are:- A/C, split rear seat, cruise control.

Look for a good, well loved car, that's been run by someone with some money & in colours you can live with! Personally low mileage cars are not worth paying a premium for & tend to give more grief than regularly used ones.

Totaly agree Jim! Forget model/options. Just buy on condition. All '44s are great cars when in good knick. If you just look for a good one rather than narrow your options you will find one in a reasonable time scale. I know some that have been looking for a '44 for over two years. But they won't look at anything less than an S2. And when they find one they want it for nothing.
Only thing I regret is not paying a bit more when I bought mine & getting a better one. Much cheaper than doing them up. Find some nut like me thats spent more than the value of the car on it in the last 3 years.

as above, but make sure any options work, also check for sunroof bag if sunroof fitted, check for toolkit, check rear blind retracts, buy on condition, you'll never find guards red with black leather, air con, M030 suspension etc for £3k, also check recent service history rather than did it have its 12 month service, as its 15 plus years since then, and ask on the forum for advice

A BIT OFF TOPIC BUT AS A NEW OWNER MY ADVICE IS......Get up early every morning and check new additions on the internet. I looked at 17 944 S2's over 2 months. I have the luxury of being able to run off at the drop of a hat so was able to see cars as they came on the market. I kept bumping into the same 2 or 3 guys all looking at the same cars as me. It's a competitive market to find good ones (I'm not sure they were all private buyers to be honest and may have been on the hunt for good ones for specialists due to the fact they I was able to purchase cars as they wanted them far too cheap). Don't assume they are only on autotrader and pistonheads..be a bit more creative and there are a few hidden jems out there.

I actually found one and arrived to test drive the same morning I saw it on classiccarsforsale.co.uk at 10:30 to have a look (over 100 miles) and bought it. Whilst looking at the paperwork there were 2 other calls that I heard came through regarding it.

Good ones are worth the hunt, but it's worth accepting that it's a challenge to get a good one.
