Hi

Just wondered if anybody has had the cills on their 944 re-coated before. Im not sure what you call it?? I take it a standard bodyshop can do it? The reason i ask is mine is beginning to bubble. I have had a good look and a poke around and there doesnt seem to be any signs of rot?

Also has anyone got the box style side skirts fitted?

The bodyshop put on what can best described as a resin like substance, run a roller over it to get the stippled effect then paint over it when it's dried.

I'm sure someone will be along who knows the correct terminology.

It's known as stonechip. Hafrauds sell a reasonable version of it in an aerosol, but from my experience it's a bit cranky as regards temperature & application thickness to make a reasonable looking job.
Not wishing to be a bearer of bad news but if it's bubbling then their may well be rust behind it, so it won't be just a case of reapplying it.

Yes you should definatley strip the old stuff off & have a proper look. Shouldn't bubble unless theres a problem underneath. Underseal hides a multitude of sins! Caught early the repair will be cheaper & make the next MOT less stressful

Wurth make a product that replicates the factory applied underseal perfectly. It's called SKS Stoneguard and comes in black, white and grey. It's applied via an air fed Shutz gun:



If you are getting bubbling in your sills then it's more than likely come from the inside rather than through the thick stoneguard paint. Pull off the vents just below the door catch in the door frane and shine a torch inside. It's worth regulary spraying in here and all along the inside of the sill with a rust preventing wax like Waxoyl or Dinitrol.
