I have a 944 turbo that is currently undergoing light restoration, new sills wing bottoms and fixing any rust.

I'm facing a bit of a dilemma now, with respects the respray.
The car is in a guards red at the moment which was a colour change from the original maraschino red (which is slightly metallic). The original colour is still in the engine bay and under boot carpet etc.

Car is completely stripped now, wings off, glass out and all the metal work is done. However, there is the issue of looking at changing the colour back to the original colour now.

The guards red change was a blow over on top of the original colour, so there is a lot of paint on there at the moment, original layers are underneath (looks like 2 coats of the maraschino with the guards red on top).

The car really needs to be stripped back and repainted, but with that comes a huge difference in quotes.

I’m looking for somewhere to prep and paint the car, which I’ll provide on a trailer with panels off and glass out. Then I’ll reassemble.

Any recommendations - ideally around the SE England, (Bucks, West London preferred)
I don’t want to spend too much on it, its going to be driven, not a show car.

I would say that colour changed cars are usually worth less, originality is always worth more

Yeah totally agree on keeping original colour for originality and value reasons.

I wasn't overly keen on my burgundy interior at first but have grown to love it!

Cheers

Stuart

Maraschino is one of my favorite 944 colors, so I'd deffo put it back to original.

Thanks guys,

Any recommendations for a good paint / body shop in the south east (near London)?

Thanks for the tip. I’m hoping for somewhere nearer north west London or bucks if possible.

I’ll have the car mostly stripped so doesn’t need to be a Porsche specialist.

Paint thickness measurement prove the car has the original paint under the guards red all over, so i’m being recommended to go back to bare metal, or keep the guards red.

Any recommendations on painters would be greatly appreciated.
