That’s a lot cheaper and much better than genuine

Well, I am now the proud owner of a pair of B6 rears at £190 - bizzare that amazon shipped them in 2 seperate boxes arriving different days!

Also now have new set of spring compressors so just waiting for the OPC to tell me the front end parts have arrived.

I will of course be checking the mfg dates.

Thanks all.

Hi Guys,

took the front struts off yesterday and whilst the bottom bolts were tough to loosen, overall it wasn't too difficult. Ony small issue was the small stud that the brake wear sender earth is bolted to sheared on one strut - but thats only a problem when I decide what to do with the old struts.

The old bump stops appear to have morphed into a material that resembles plastacine mixed with cork dust :) .

Whilst there were no leaks from the shocks, one side is pretty "gurgly" and uneven when operating the rod so was in pretty bad shape.

The question I now have is about the plastic clip on parts - the barrel that holds the ABS/wear sensor connector and the wire harness clip. (22 & 23 below)

Im guessing that whilst I removed these carefully the plastic lug is still a little chewed and probably wont hold on the new struts so have you guys replaced these also?

Back again....

Looks like the wiring from the connector to the brake pads is missing from one side

Can anyone give me guidance on what I need to fix this please?

Thanks for all of the updates, I'll need/like to do mine into the future. Were the dates okay on the OPC front shocks? Did they give you any classic discount?

Let us know how you get on.

The struts were made in 2003 so new but 17yrs old!
All OPC parts on the front and B6 on the rear.

I did some research and decided to fit them having asked if Porsche will extend the 2yr warranty. Either way, I will be checking them carefully in 23 months!

That said, the car is transformed. If anybody is wondering if this is worth doing, don't hesitate. Splash the cash and you won't be disappointed.

First test drive revealed a knock on the nearside strut, but on checking, the top nut wasn't tight enough due to the rod spinning when tightening. Used a rather heath Robinson, but effective solution involving a long socket and 2 sets of moles to get it tight enough. Knock now gone and the drive is fantastic. Wish I had done this years ago.

The plastic parts I mentioned are available for OPC for around £12 so they are ordered and will be fitted soon. Just on zip ties for now !!

If you're going to splash the cash, splash a bit more a get the guys at Centre Gravity to setup the geo for you. When I changed to B6 in mine, the geo made more difference than the hardware change itself.

Cheers,
Bryan

I will be surprised if they extend warranty as you fitted them yourself, someone else I know had issues with warranty when not fitted by a trained Porsche technician

Waylander,

you are correct, they will not extend the warranty, but more than that.......

The factory have checked the entire stock and they’re all 2003, they apologise for supplying them and would like them back.
Although they have no shelf life Porsche in Germany have decided they’re not acceptable.

However, there currently is no supplier lined up to reproduce these.
These will have to go through a requalification process which will involve finding a new supplier and quality control testing.
This is a long process and can take over a year if not longer, that is if Porsche decide that it is worthwhile endeavour to keep these available.

So, stand by for S2 struts to go NLA for some time!

Oh great, that will be S2, 968, late turbo as well,

Koni and Bilstien are about to get a bit more business

The 2010 made struts on my 968 are shagged already, but they look brand new, still have the labels on them, going to get 51 Rider to chop them up for me and put the B6 inserts I got brand new for £100 off eBay in them,

Go with the B6 on the back

Since they will likely be destroyed and you will not have a driveable car until the Bilstein inserts turn up and they get sorted, is it worth making a cheeky representation to Porsche UK to see if they will give you a proportional refund on the struts on the understanding that you will destroy them when they get chopped up to be modified ready for a set of B6 inserts. That way you get some nice new casings that have not been subjected to 30 ish years of wear & tear.

Just an idle thought :)

I have similar thoughts and will certainly ask :D

You wont be surprised to hear the response was a firm NO.

Porsche won’t do anything other than take them back

:(

How are you getting on with this?

Author:  IanK [ Thu Aug 27, 2020 10:04 am ]
Post subject:  Re: S2 Cab Springs

Just waiting on my struts coming back from being modified by 51Rider - a bit of a delay due to short staff at the powder coaters but looking forward to being back on the road soon.

I got a full refund on all the parts I returned to Porsche (everything but the springs).
