Hi

Should my car have front wheel arch liners please?

It's an early/mid '85 built 2.5 Lux.

If it's correct without, can they be retrofitted to provide extra protection please?

As ever, all advice very gratefully received!

The early cars (up to Model Year 85) didn't have front wheel arch liners, so an early 1985 car without them seems right. I don't know if they can be retro-fitted.

There will be metal threaded studs inside the wheel arch that the plastic liners attach to with standard plastic trim nuts. If you haven't got these then you won't be able to attach the liners. Take a look at a picture of a liner and you will see where the mounting holes are located. That will give you an idea of where the studs should be.

Thank you both.

There are no fixings for the liners so I guess it's all good.

Of course, I bought a pair that popped up on ebay just in case. Something else that I won't be needing now :?

Thanks again

If it is any consolation, the liners are often blamed for allow mud to collect at the rear of the wheel arch leading to the bottom of the wings rotting. If you ascribe to that theory then you are better off without them.

I have a 1988 S and removed the wheel arch liners as they seemed a waste of time to me.
Both the front wing bottoms were totally rotted out when I got the car and seeing how the mud/debris had collected in the bottom of the wings I would say the wheel arch liners contributed to that as it makes that area inaccessible and difficult to clean out.
I should add I don't use the car when its wet .
