Thanks Waylander,I didn't realise 35mm would make that much difference.
Certainly don't want a stiffer ride so that option looks to be a no go.
Back to square one.

if I am back to a cut and weld on the original struts does anyone know where to source the 'sleeve' .
Looking at the German guy doing the conversion on his video it looks fairly straightforward ,the critical bit would appear to be cutting the correct amount off the strut.
Will probably try and get and old strut off ebay/breakers and practice on that first.
Thanks for any sleeve inf.

you are quite correct, that's the only critical part,

51rider does sets of struts already welded up on an exchange basis, he has done a few now,

he has the collars made up for him, but I think during this epidemic the machine shop is closed,

PM him direct and see if you can arrange something.

Just fitted Gaz Gold to mine on an already lowered car (25mm). I've had Koni sports on with coil over kit from Paragon, rear changed to 968 torsion bar and reindexed, front springs were 200lbs/in.
I wanted easier adjustment on the rear (the Konis have to be removed)
The Gaz came with very short 300/lb springs with helpers, didn't like them so changed to 250/lbs Eibach.
The Gaz shocks have a much shorter stoke than the Konis which had 12" springs the Eibachs are 10" and the Gaz supplied were 8" + helpers which were fully compressed on droop, so serving no purpose.
I quite like the Konis, the car handled and cornered really well on track but it was a pain resetting the rears for road use and they still felt too firm set fully soft (fronts were great.
Fitting the Gaz was not straightforward but initial impressions are good, front camber needs a tweak when I can get it to CoG. The spring top collars supplied with the Gaz shocks were not suitable for the monoball top mounts so I used the ones from the Konis they would probablt be ok with std. top mounts.

Will contact 51rider when things back to normal.
As an OAP I expect we will be the last ones to be let out to play.

Thanks for the shout out :)

I placed the order for more inserts about a week before the shutdown was announced so I am out of stock unfortunately. If you really want to get them done so that you don't lose any driving time once we are back to normal/restrictions are lifted, then try partworks.de for the adaptor sleeves. They are still processing and sending out orders.

Get in touch with PaulDavies as he does the collars complete with fitting instructions & has quite a bit of knowledge on the B6 conversions.

He's now on here.

Just got a set of sleeves from Partworks in Germany, nice helpful people to deal with.
Sleeves are of good quality and well turned.
Unfortunately they do not come with the plastic O ring or the large nut that screws on the top as these items not in stock at the moment. They hope to get them in towards the end of the year.
This is a winter lay up job so not urgent.
If they don't get these bits in I will have to source them from elsewhere which could prove interesting.
I'm sure my local machine shop will make the large nut but the plastic O ring ?
Looks like Boris has let us out to play as far as driving our toys is concerned , think will go and fill up with all this cheap petrol before price goes back to normal.

Thanks for that, that's not mentioned anywhere in the Bilstein adverts/inf.
Makes things much easier.

Once you decide to proceed with the conversion and have removed the existing shock assemblies, l’d be happy to build up the new units if you send me all the bits. You will need the Bilstein tool or something similar to correctly tighten the new nut to the welded insert to the correct torque if you want to do it yourself.

Don't have time to do the front B6 conversion project but might go ahead & do the B6 sport rears for now & see how they would feel. Not sure if that would upset the handling rather than improve as front are still factory; most probably 31 years old
