The pump is making lots of nose when you move the wheel and the fluid is pouring out of the reservoir, full of bubbles!!!

Has it died??

No air locked

Lift the front wheels in the air, let the froth subside

Then wind the steering slowly from lock to lock 3-4 time without the engine running, this should help expel the air keep checking the fluid levels

When you are sure most of the air is out start the engine and let it tick over while winding from lock to lock slowly

This should clear the rest of the air

I have a document from the makes on how to bleed the system, it’s the same for all cars using this type of PAS, mostly BMW, Mercedes and Porsche

Thank you so much.

We lifted the car and did this.

First with engine off, a few bubbles then none.

Then we started the car, the pump made such a terrific grinding sound, I thought the bearings had gone.

The red steering fluid poured out everywhere when we moved the wheel left and right, full of millions of tiny bubbles. Very fizzy!

Eventually, the bubbles stopped coming and the motor stopped grinding. The reservoir fell to half full. When we turn the wheel generally there are no bubbles. If you hard lock it and release you get a fine fizz of bubbles in the reservoir but they disapate immediately. Can't seem to stop this. But steering is working. Is this ok?

The reservoir is very low now. The fluid is red and, was recently replaced. What should I buy to top up, ok to mix it?

Top it up to the correct levels and all should be good

Topped up, loads of noise. Did the bleed exercise, got it quite again with no bubbles. Next morning noise back, squirted out the top everywhere.

We can quiet her down by bleeding exercise but next every morning, noise back, mess, clear up and bleeding. All the pipes are tight, not leaking or sucking air. Maybe the pump had gone? Service kit?

Internet diagnosis is always a bit of a risk, but it sounds like its drawing in air from somewhere,

did you say you have replaced the steering rack,

the pumps are easy to rebuild with new seals, its a 928 part number 928 347 921 01, £11 from Porsche Center Parts Dept

Hey, haven't changed rack but the it was all disconnected during last service and new fluid added. I think you are right though, seal kit is in order.
