I've heard of a couple of instances on the 16v engines and I have two previous springs breaks in my history file from previous owners. This was the reason I suspected mine had broke but it turned out this time it wasn't a spring.

Heard of a few 16v ones but not 8v
When I was spannering as a full time job I replaced loads of V8 merc ones, but the Porsche variety seem a lot stronger
