Hi
I have done a search which shows up plenty of results but nothing recent, and some of the companies offering the recommended exhausts don't seem to be trading any longer.

So I have a 90 model 944 S2. It has a stainless exhaust made from a company like poweflow or the like from the cat back. Seems a nice piece of kit to be fair but I'm getting a very consistent rattle clunk bang from under the car at exactly 3k revs to around 3.2k. it's the same in every gear and it's been there since I've owned it. Hasn't got any worse or any better. But it's annoying me now. It's either the exhaust or the torque tube. Now I'm thinking, the cat looks original and there's no paperwork to suggest it's been changed. Therefore it could be damaged inside.

What I'm considering is wether I can lose the cat all together on this model and year. What are my options for doing so and what would I expect to get in terms of sound and performance gains (or losses).

I don't like loud droning exhausts nor do I like engine lights or MOT failures so I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on tackling this.

Really I just want to have the knowledge ready incase I strip things down and find the cat is causing this rattle. I can then get the car somewhere like long life for whatever is needed.

I've got a 1990 S2 Cab , which I fitted a Decat kit to many years ago. Also fitted a Dansk rear box. I seem to remember that the Decat kit was possibly Janspeed ( basically a small resonator can ) . Never had any MOT issues with it ( AFAIK cats weren't required until 1994 ) and although it is slightly louder than original , it certainly doesn't drone.

I've got a Promax middle box but they went out of business iirc.
There is a local chap who can make anything in stainless (at a price)

Nash at Retro Restorer was developing a decat for the 944, not sure whether it has available as a product to purchase as yet though. Give him a call as he knows all things 944.
