Hi again all.
Tyres on their way :)
At some point before I took ownership, someone installed the front part of the 10 speaker system into the doors plus some tweeters. There still grille covers for the original door speakers.
Most of these components have now failed, to point where I have to fade to the rear speakers which are not nice sounding 6x4s.
It's very difficult to find replacement bits for these, so I was wondering whether anyone had any ideas for sourcing replacements, or with newer speaker design, would I be better off using a modern speaker in the original hole?
I should probably also do something better in the rear, but there's already a thread for that.
Cheers
Nick

do you have the 3 speakers in the lower door boxes in the front doors? rather than the single 6x4

like the 968 layout..

If so then I replaced my knackered Nokia speakers with the 5.25" component set from FLi

Like this

then the rears i did with Vibe

Vibe speakers are excellent value for money.

Thanks for that!
Couldn't see many speakers that looked as though they'd fit the front door box

Are those FLi speakers a straight swap for the ones in the door pockets?

Need just a little fettling but they fit quite well

The coupe has crossovers in the doors already but you can’t poke 50w through them, so I replaced those with the ones that came with the Fli speakers, the tweeters were a bit more of an issue, the ones in Ty he coupe doors are 45mm the FLi ones are 25mm

So after months of searching and asking I got a pair of knackered ones off a 968uk member, took out the grills and did some serious surgery on them, then glued in the FLi tweeters to the 968 housings

It all sounds quite good but the head unit just does not have the power to drive them properly
So I need to find a hole for a 4 channel 100/150 amp, Alpine do a really neat one the summit 445 it just plugs in between the head unit and the ISO plug

Thanks Martin.

Did you only replace the bass speaker in the door pocket, or did you use something else to replace the mid range one?

Having said that, is there more than one speaker in the door pocket?
I can't remember what was in mine, but PET shows a mid range and a woofer with the tweeter higher up on the door card with Option M490.
I've just seen the mount on eBay from a 968 and it only has one speaker in.

The standard coupe only has one speaker installed but the marks are there ready to cut out

The modern mid range speakers are more than a match for the old nokia ones

You may not need three in each door

The 968 10 speaker option, there are two in the door box and a tweeter at the top of the door

With some dual cones in the real and a under seat bass box in the side we’ll in the boot the sound is quite acceptable
