I’ve been cleaning the engine bay, I’ve had the car over 10 years and I haven’t touched until these last few weeks, the grime that came off it was horrific!
Another bonus, I’ve got my under bonnet light working and I can see what the original stickers say 8)

A decent degreaser & detailing brush followed by a hose with engine running will do the job nicely.

sorry to ask what is probably a dumb question but why with the engine running?

In short, helps the engine to dry off quicker & heat from the engine helps the cleaning process. Ideally, not freezing water on a hot engine.

In more detail, there are other factors, but for an enthusiast to get from filthy to a tidy clean engine bay, the above will make it very presentable. Especially if you finish off the plastics/rubbers with something like 303 Aerospace, which is both healthy & factory look.

I used elbow grease degreaser (Google it, it's a pound from most places, in a windowlene sized spray bottle, fantastic stuff!!), Various sized detailing brushes, toothbrush, lots of old rags and detailing spray to finish. Didn't use any water at all except what the rags were soaked in to wipe away the degreaser. :)

You can do waterless engine detailing by using the Optimim No Rinse.
