Think they will, cup1 wheels are from the 964/968 I have cup 1 on my car, they are only genuine if they have the size each side of the valve hole

215 is for 7j rims, my fronts are 7.5j so take 225/45/17

The offsets are wrong. You'll need spacers.

Also D90 wheels are not forged, it's the clubsport wheels, which look similar, that are forged. Turbo D90's and forged CS rims both have same tyre sizes you mention.

The CS rims are much lighter.

Hi Stuart
Darn, that's embarrassing. I had thought they were forged. Need to check to see what's actually on there now!
Anyway, aside from that I'm interested in what you have found to be the best mix of fronts with your rear Toyos?
I'm just rather unsure how close one needs to get in terms of matching tread patterns and rubber compounds, or am I just overthinking?
(Proxes TR1 are available for the rear, but there are now no Toyos for the front, but 58 or so other options!)

Cheers
Nick

No worries Nick, I still have lots to learn after 10 years of ownership! The turbo D90's are cast and have a rather chunky lip whereas the forged CS rims have a much smaller lip. Also CS wheels are 7J front and 9J rear. Turbo D90's were introduced in 90 model year, CS rims 88 model year on turbo s. You tend to find all 89 turbo's have CS rims and very early 90's had CS rims and then later ones got the D90's. Both are pictured in the 90 year brochure. If yours is a MY89 they may be CS rims?

CS Wheels

D90's

I've never had any issues with different brand fronts. As long as my axles are matched that's good for me. Uniroyal Rainsport 3's were quite grippy and soft and good in the wet. However find of the year for me has been these, long story short was chasing a front wheel shudder about 70mph for ages, I have a dink on one of my front rims, so rocked up at a "road force" balancing place to try and cure the issue. The front Toyo's that came off were out of shape and they had these on the shelf, so we chucked them on to see if we could cure the wobble.

http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Westl ... t-SA37.htm

Having never heard of them and also being £40 each (!) I was sceptical. Not only did we cure the wobble but the tyres actually perform very well. I was amazed to read the reviews on various sites where they seemed to get good reviews. Car feels good and the front grips better in the wet than with Toyo's and dry performance seems on a par.

Good luck with your choices.

Stuart

Been saying for years these Far East tyres are pretty dam good, especially for the money they cost.

the days of spending £600-700 for a set of premium tyres for the benefit are slowly going,

I will say again the GT-Radial Champiro HPY that I have done 18K on (now baldish) have been quiet, grippy, predictable, and good in the rain. for £240 fitted I think that was a bargain.

If i was tracking the car or it was a daily driver then the investment might be worth it, I even put a set on my A4 quattro TDI and they were better then the factory fitted Pirelli P7's that did not even have the A0 rating,

so much for having tyres rated for the make of car, when the factory don't even fit them on brand new cars.

You are tight! :D

Honestly the plan was to quickly replace them with "better" rubber once we had clarified the wobble was away. It was pissing down when I left the garage and I tip toed around the place expecting to locate some ditches in jig time, then the next day in the dry I pushed on a bit and they were great, then next time in rain I explored further and they were working well! Lucked into it really but happy with price and performance!

Thanks for that Stuart. Have ordered Toyos and Westlakes from Tyreleader!
Checked the wheels and they are indeed CS.
Thanks to all for your advice.
I've had the 944 since 2001 but only had to change the tyres once in all that time.
It's spent a lot of time in my garage, but I'm in the process of bringing it back to use.
Thanks again
Nick

I can see this being an ongoing issue, for tyres that size...

there is this, but its not a lot of help

https://files.porsche.com/filestore/dow ... assics.pdf

even if they are locked away in the dark they will still be useless after that amount of time, the Plasticizer evaporate out of the rubber, if you have ever wondered why tyres go brown on the sidewalls, thats the tyre Plasticizer escaping as they are used to keep them soft and sticky....

I agree Martin. 245 45 16 becoming far too scarce!

No problem Nick, glad to be of help. Your CS rims are worth considerably more than D90's! :)

Rain, wossat then? I think my 944 has been caught in the wet 4 or 5 times in the last 10 years :) .

Ha ha! Defo not driving it enough! I've done 64k miles in 10 years as my daily driver in Scotland. It's been wet more than 5 times!

It did live in a heated garage in Weymouth for 10 years previous, so by my reckoning it's a 20 year old car.... :D

I have 3000 miles a year on my classic insurance, and I make sure I do every single one of them.................. 21K in 5.5 Years

I only put 5500 on the A4 last year, and 3300 on the 968
