Can someone confirm this is the right oil / filter kit for my car please?

It’s a 944S2 with 197k on the clock. Due an annual service and all I can see in previous service is “10/40 ss”.

Personally I would run a heavier oil than that given the mileage. I used to run my 944 on Valvoline VR1 which is a 20W/50. it was quiet on it. Depending on how many miles a year you do & also short or long journeys I ould change the oil more often than the 12K Porsche specify. Mine used to do no more than 6K between oil changes when it was my daily driver. Once it became a second car doing 3K a year it was an annual oil change.

I do run my 968 on 20W50, cos thats what it says in the book

and mine has done 157K

DO NOT USE THAT OIL,
You need 20W50 with a high level of ZDDP (1400ppm minimum)
you probably have to go for a"racing" oil to get the ZDDP, as it was reduced in "road" oils a while back,

Crikey a am glad I posted as almost pulled the plug last night.

It’s a weekend car so only does a couple of thousand a year but I am finding myself using
it more and more recently. It is a bit ‘tapperty’ though come to think of it.

The Mobil Super 2000 X1 does at least contain ZDDP (From memory around 800ppm) so it's a better choice than most modern oils.
VR1 is much better - 1300ppm from what I can find on google? Also cheaper!

I've been using Total Quartz Racing 10w50 fully synth on my turbo for a good few years. No complaints and it can be had for about £50 delivered for 10 litres.

I use Valvoline VR 20/50 in my 944 S2, as it is supposed to have around 1300 ppm ZDDP in it.

I was advised against going too low in terms of viscosity because of engine miles, 153k, but it doesn't burn /use much oil.

I do 2-3k miles a year and change oil and filter every year.......am also thinking of changing oil before it goes into winter hibernation for the 3 months or so when roads are salty, but that might be overkill/a waste as the car won't be driven much at all during those months

The important bit is the right level of ZDDP content, as I understand it from various posts in this forum, although that's not always easy to find in the spec sheets. However Classic Oils website can be helpful as they try and specify ZDDP content on a lot of oils they supply

I used to run Mobil semi 10/40, tried Fuchs 20/50 then found Fuchs 10/40 full synth ProR. It has 1400 zddp and was supplied by Opie. I use it as a daily commute shortish runs so I like to use a lighter oil. The engine seems to like it and feels more lively with the lighter oil. The engine has only done 80k so it's still running in by comparison. I'm using the same oil in my 933 mainly for the ZDDP level.
Even when stinking hot the oil pressure is fine with 10/40 but with a high milage engine you are probably better off with a 20/50.
Opie were very helpful in finding the oil I wanted as most oil manufacturers do not publish their ZDDP figures. Racing oils seem exempt from enviromental restrictions but probably have lower detergent levels as they are changed more frequently. No oil leaks have developed.

Sounds a good option for OP. Unit 11 in Warrington use Fuchs oils (nearly misspeld it) but quite a few local indies use Millers. They get really anal about oils over the pond. I used to race my MG with Castrol R just loved the smell and the cleanest engine I ever rebuilt but totally impracticable for modern cars.

Along with Endoman, I've been using the Fuchs Titan Race Pro R and S for a little while. I did quite a lot of research at the time and Fuchs themselves were very helpful in providing information about the additive package and the zinc and phosporous levels were right where these engines need them to be (I can't remember the exact numbers but I can check back if anyone is interested). They are both full ester synthetics which is about as good as it gets. They are also made (mixed I guess) in the UK, or at least they were when I was looking.

I've been using 10W50 for a while and the oil pressure behaviour has been better than when I was using 20W50 mineral oil. With the mineral oil the pressure would peg at 5 bar and it didn't seem to matter how hard I drove the car it wouldn't drop below 4.5 bar. When I changed to the Fuchs the initial pressure is still 5 bar but when the engine is warm it drops to 3.5 to 4 bar at idle which I take to mean the oil is flowing a bit better than with the mineral oil. So I think the Fuchs must be at the lower end of the 50 weight spectrum when it's warm. I've actually bought some 10W40 for the next change and I hope that will improve the flow (drop the hot oil pressure) slightly. Either way the pressure is well above the minimums Porsche show in the manual. Some might think it's total overkill for 944 Lux with 86k miles but it keeps me happy.

The only negative is that it's quite expensive. It's worth looking out for Opie's offers when you can get 7 litres for the price of 6 or something similar and the Tipec discount gives you another 10% off.
