So, had to remove fuel lines from fuel rail to take off intake manifold. When all put back together, now have a continuous ticking noise coming from the rail, seems to be where the vacuum pipes connect to what I think is the fuel regulator. Never experienced this before.

Am I missing something?

Appreciate any help.

Yes. Increases ticking with revs.

Then I would suggest it’s the injectors ticking, they can be quite loud, you might not have noticed before

Especially as you say the ticking increases with revs, the only real way to track the noise is with a automotive stethoscope

My S2 used to do this. The guy who bought it from me insisted the tappets were noisy, but I knew better. If you give the throttle a blip, and the ticking stops while the engine revs are falling back to idle with the throttle fully closed, then starts up again as idle returns it's likely be the usual injector noise.

That is exactly what happens. Will it stay like this?

Have started the engine a few times & still the same!

Have had the bonnet open many times, especially recently, testing the AC & the engine ran very smoothly not with this ticking noise. It is very noti eable.

You didn't lose the spacers under the fuel rail?

What spacers?

I took off the whole intake manifold together/including the fuel rail so did not separate the fuel rail from manifold; are there any spacers somewhere?

Although I did take off the bolts that attach the rail to the manifold; are there spaces between them. like thick washers?

I never came across them on mine, but there are supposed to be 3x5mm spacers,I made some up by filling down some sump gasket spacers,

I believe mine did have at least 2....had a look & the centre one is still there. Also, did notice we had the exact same spacer loose after assembly but did not recognise where it was missing from. Will try to put it back as the ticking seems to be coming exactly from that location.

Very helpful, much appreciated.
