A sensor or crud related issue would most likely ping the light on when moving away, not stationary at start up. You could have an ECU, earthing, wiring or relay fault but notoriously hard to fault find. It is well documented on this forum, use the search function.

I had the reverse issue whereby my light was not on but the ABS was inop. This turned out to be a seized pump, which by priming, fooled the ECU, but when called upon the system was useless.

As an aside, when it is all working, give it a wee workout every few months to stop the pump seizing which can be common in a 30 year old pump not seeing much use.

Well I'm hoping I found the cause of the ABS light :bounce:

Can't confirm yet though as cannot start the car as I've got the rear in the air and waiting for my new parts for the fuel pump assembly.

First off I checked the ABS computer and found that the mounting bolts on both sides were loose (including the one with the earth cable), so I tightened those up, must have been the muppet at SVP Motorsport messing around - god knows why he decided to do that. Then I checked the harness and disconnected and then reconnected the plug as it didn't seem to be seated correctly.

Then I turned my attention to the fuse box and found that fuse number 26 (ABS) was blown, so I've replaced it with a new 15A fuse, fingers crossed!

Was surfing CP4L yesterday and noticed they also have a Lucas rebuilt A/C compressor for £260 +£100 core charge.

Seems like a pretty good deal - and should be the same quality as my rebuilt alternator.

A/C is on my list but I think it can wait till next winter - need to get this project on the road!

Bought a new set of bearings for my alternator from J&R auto electrical £7.90 and I went for the more expensive option

New slip rings were £11

Quick clean up new bearings and a new voltage regulator all in £28 happy with that

I did consider that but then there was always the possibility it still wouldn't work - I think the diodes had gone on mine.

Also the rebuilt one has a brand new pulley and the electrical binding posts including the bakerlite type material has been replaced.

Well looks like it was just a dodgy connection and a blown fuse - finally got the fuel system reconnected today and started the car up.

NO ABS LIGHT!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
