The guy I referred to on Youtube adds a small amount of ATF into the strut housing to help with heat transfer. Not something I'd heard of before, but theoretically worthwhile.

No point in doing that for Blstein inserts because they are upside down, it would be like cooling a shock boot

So took off both shocks at the weekend. I've not stripped them down, as I don't have the right tools. But when you put pressure on the top mount, both units 'click'. Could the nylon bush be missing? Would that allow the shock to bounce off the strut? I'm leaving them down to my local Indy to see if he's any ideas.

I think the clicking is a by -product of the movement seen in your video. You need to strip them down and see if the white spacer ring has been installed. If you haven't already, watch the video that Waylander posted further up in the thread. You will then know what you are looking for and can let your indie know too.

Slight change of plan, i'm sending them down to Nick and Nickson Motorsport to check them over. I could take them apart but I don't have the tool to put them back together and if parts are missing I don't have them. He can check them over and sort where needs be. It would be great if this is just something simple like the spacer missing. Yes i've watched the video a few times, he's very good.

I did my time as a fab/welder. I still take tricky stuff to a master welder buddy from my apprenticeship days. Jobs like Inconel or Alusil I wouldn't take to any old welder.

As this thread has some traction, I thought I'd link my B6 conversion thread
