I did and I would recommend them.

I think this is probably where I will get mine from. I emailed Max yesterday and he was very helpful. Their belts are Gates and tensioners are INA, which is what everyone is recommending.

I think the OEM water pumps were made by Laso. Generally around the £200 mark, though sometimes a bit cheaper on eBay. If you go for a cheap one, watch out as some have plastic impellers which many people have reported as failing.

Not sure if you've said it's been done already, but you might also want to consider doing the front engine seals 'whilst you're in there', and also checking oil pump drive gear and 'o'ring.

Good call. I don't think that the seals have ever been replaced, so as you say "while I'm in there".

I have read somewhere about an ionisation cap that fits between the distributor and the cambelt cover - does anyone have a picture of this, so I can check if I have one of these?

I don't want to blow that statement but when I changed my water pump in 2017 the impeller is plastic and the pump I am fairly sure is the original as it's dated 1992, it's also done if it's original 150,000 miles.

The reason these pumps cause problems is because the cars don't get used enough
If you want to inspect it I still have it, the bearings were getting very noisy but it was not leaking,

From all my research it would appear that a number of different vendors made genuine pumps for Porsche over the years, so it's very hard to say what is or is not OEM

Zims in the USA do an exchange ump, not sure of the financials you'll have to investigate with your specific model. But when I spoke to them a few years ago they were pretty positive that they'd had very few if any fail.

Fair point - I only meant to relay that I've heard of several plastic impeller pumps failing - and that may be attributable to a number of factors. It is very possible that a number of manufacturers, both OEM and non-OEM may use plastic impellers.

If you do get a metal one, you can get them rebuilt by EP services in Wolverhampton

My Audi 80 V6 had a plastic impeller in the water pump. They were known for falling off at around 120k, and sure enough mine did. I was a little surprised that Audi wanted the old pump in exchange for a new one.

If you are looking for a water pump then I would get it from Design 911 - they have an extended sale on and I picked up a GEBA water pump for my Turbo for £152 ex VAT.

https://www.design911.co.uk/fu/pt878_88 ... ant-Pumps/

The GEBA has a metal impellor -

Part number - 94460280300 - £13.64

Just ordered one of these for my Turbo - it hasn't had one fitted for as long as I recall...
