So, let me get this straight; according to what I read, front & rear pads are identical on the S2, correct?

As the calipers are Brembo, thought I would try front & rear pads by Brembo from Eurocarparts as more often than not, they are at 50% discount & delivered.

Here's the question; as the rear are always cheaper on this site, shall I go ahead & order 2 sets of rears for front & rear on my car?

they are the same size this is correct, I have seen some manufactures offering two different friction materials but brembo seem to be the same in the cataloge

Great, I'll just order 2 sets of rears then.

Maybe that's why they have 2 different prices; using different materials!?

Different size pistons so shims are different, however the brembos have a flat metal shim so should be fine. Fairly sure you'll get 2 boxes with the same Brembo part number. I have them on the back of my car and they've been good with no noise.

Yep, parts list shows same part number for both front & rear pads.
