When the 944 S2 does NOT have AC, there is a cooling duct to the alternator. When the S2 HAS AC, the alternator is in a higher location & the mounting bracket is different; in this case, does the alternator still have a cooling duct to it?

I have relocated the alternator to accommodate the AC compressor with the appropriate OE bracket, but it seems the alternator ventilation cowl cannot fit now due to the different mounting bracket & the duct doesn't seem to adapt to the new location!?

It has a different cowl and duct. Longer ducting hose, the cowl has 90degree downpipe to connect hose to. Don't forget the gasket between the cowl and alternator. If it's anything like the tight squeeze on the turbo then you have to sit the cowl in place first, then connect it to the alternator once that's in position.

Great, Thanks for the info.

I couldn't find them in the parts list!? Will try to have a look in Waylander's 944 manual.

Is it really needed?

Yes it makes a big difference. A cool alternator will charge better for longer. If it's anything like the turbo, connect the duct to the cowl first, then drop the ducting down carefully as you connect the cowl to the alternator. Then connect the other end up. You may need the hard pipe from the bumper area if its not there already.

While your at it check the regulator/brushes assembly cheap enough to replace. Mine were well worn after 130k.

I would really like to find the the cowl & ducting but can't see them anywhere; can someone send any pics or part numbers?

I do have the hard pipe behind bumper as I have the non AC configuration.

If you look at the PET the part nos are listed as option M573 (cars fitted with a/c). e.g. ventilation element 951.603.113.03. as far as I can tell.

OK, looked it up & found the part as your description;
951 603 113 03
928 603 135 03 for the sealing ring
944 603 153 01 for connecting hose

Apart from hose clamps, I'm assuming I will now need 944 603 441 00 long air duct?

Waylander, what does your price include?

Are these prices from Porsche?

These parts are already existing in my previously non AC set up:

944 603 441 00 Long Air Guide £20.08
944 603 442 00 Short Air Guide £9.83

So, I basically need these:

951 603 113 03 Cowel for M573 £22.91
928 603 135 03 for the sealing ring £6.25
944 603 153 01 for connecting hose £31.80

I might even just buy an aftermarket hose; could be cheaper!?

Great.

I'll try & check with Porsche Malta first. If prices are the usual horrendous, will figure out a way to get from UK.

Can you tell me the price for the fuel tank strainer gasket ; 928 201 187 00?
