It tends to get used for the alarm telltale - yours may have been replaced with a blank when an old alarm was removed.
I can't see you have anything missing from that row, the order varies quite often.
There aren't any other options that I've seen. Someone may correct me.

by alarm telltail do you mean the LED?

You could be right although the switch has a connector block attached to the bottom of it, with 4 or 5 chunky 'factory' wires. If it was just for an led I would have thought there would only be 2 wires?

Its worth mentioning all the other buttons are connected and do work, Wipers, Sunroof, Mirrors, Central Locking..

The "blank" button is supposed to toggle the alarm interior ultrasonics on and off as far as I am aware. So you could set the alarm with a window down etc. This may only have been for certain years though.

I have a MY90 car with factory remote locking alarm (i think it's factory anyway) which works perfectly and my mystery button had a chunk of severed factory loom attached. :? So unless someone decided that they no longer wanted the ultrasonic toggle function then my explanation seems iffy. Or maybe my alarm is after market. It has a serpi-star key fob which locks/unlocks and sets/un-sets alarm on one press.

My MY90 S2 has the alarm tell-tale LED there, however, I have seen reference to some cars having a front/rear fader switch located in the centre console for the speakers. Presumably this was for radio/cassette players that didn't support this functionality natively. It is quite possible that this function became unnecessary as a later, more advanced, stereo was fitted.

PET for 1991 944S2 lists the following possible switches:

951 613 113 00 Rocker switch for rear window wiper
944 613 123 00 Tip switch lifting roof
944 613 229 00 Rocker switch mirror changeover switch
951 613 147 00 Switch door latch
944 645 054 00 fader
944 631 230 00 Switch for headlight levelling system

According to the PET, that's under the flip cover on top of the gear knob. Part # 944 007 007 00.

I think this button is to lock and unlock your car doors. When you are inside the car.
I hope this helps.

Stuart is correct above, it turns the alarm ultrasonic sensors off/on for windows or sunroof to be left open on the factory alarm

Hello all. First time caller etc.....and thankfully this tread seems almost relevant.

I bought an S2 a few months ago and the post-factory alarm has a mind of it's own. I got sick of it so disconnected the brain box (which has no branding or any indication of who made it anywhere). Anyway, this isn't a massive problem as I am having it replaced next week.

However, before I disconnected the brain box it was occasionally locking me out and wouldn't respond to anything but, after a few hours, would suddenly work again. This was often accompanied around the same time by a really pathetic weak chirpy sound coming from the alarm horn and the locks would basically dance up and down.

Before this all started, the battery was fine. Now, and I don't know if this is linked, for some reason the battery never seems to charge above 10(ish)v (when the engine is off). When I'm driving the charge goes up and down between 12v and 14v, and I've noticed that it seems to charge if I drive at lower revs. When I give her more beans the charge drops again.

The battery and alternator are only a few months old.

Any thoughts?

Hey David and welcome!

First things first.. Usually if you have a new question and nothing comes up in the search its better to start a new thread with a descriptive title. That way each thread is kept specific, making it easy for other users to find answers in the future. Also if you change the subject of a thread the original question (and the person that asked it) might not get an answer.

ok..

If the battery doesn't get above 10v the car wouldn't start without a jump - First I would verify 10v is correct. Are you looking at the on-board Volt meter, or using a multimeter?
If the voltage on the on board guage is correct I would certainly be looking at the alternator.
Some devices that are faulty can cause a large power draw, but if your Volts are directly linked to revs, i.e. 2000rpm is 14v and 4000rpm is 10v I would again say alternator.

Thanks for the tips Nick, both for posting and possible solutions to my issue.

I am only referring to the on board gauge, but the battery has drained a couple of times (and I've needed a jump start) so I'm fairly sure that the dial is accurate.

As I said, the alternator is fairly new so this would surprise me - but I agree that it certainly sounds like it's faulty.

She goes in to the car sparky on Tues so I'll get him to have a look then (I'm not quite at novice mechanic stage - yet).

I'll let you know once I get to the bottom of it....

Thanks again.

D
