Post subject:  Another speedo question

I want to install a trip meter (http://www.thebasicroamer.co.uk/Products/RoamerTime) on my 85.2 944. I had it on my old square-dash car driven from the speedo cable, but of course the oval dash cars have an electric feed from the transaxle.

So my question is how can I get to the signal ? From the wiring diagram I can see no connector between the transaxle and the instrument cluster, so I suppose the cable is nicely wrapped up in a loom for its whole length. I guess I could tap into the plug on the transaxle, and then I'll have to run a wire into the cabin somewhere. Or I could pull out the instrument cluster and get to it there (pin 14 on the centre plug, I think), but that's all rather fragile.

Any thoughts ?

If you remove the boot carpet, and the underlay you will find the wiring loom that comes up from underneath the rear of the car. If you have the wiring diagram you will be able to find the correct colour wire to tap into. But be careful as that wiring loom also has the fuel pump wiring in it as well. That's probably the easiest place to tap into it and run your own wire from to he front of the car. Trying to tap in behind the clocks will be close to impossible without removing the dash as there is very little spare capable there.

Thank you - that's exactly the sort of info I was looking for. From the wiring diagram it appears to be a blue/red wire that I'm after; I'll have a look a it over the weekend.
