Hi all,

whilst out in the car yesterday I noticed the speedo would occasionally die for a few seconds then start reading correctly again. After a while, normal service was resumed.

I guess it must be a loose electrical connection somewhere?

Any suggestions as to where to start?

Probably easiest to remove the clock pod first, then check the 2 large multi plugs, see if they are on properly. Remove and give them a wee clean and re-fit. Then you could move on to the sender on the gearbox, you'll have an electric one with a 3 prong plug I think. Again, check on ok and give it a wee clean. If that fails then you are starting to look for a faulty component or a wiring break but start with the easy stuff first!

I would check the connector on the gearbox first. they tend to go green.

Thanks Guys,

I have a replacment gear shift joint to fit on the gearbox anyway so i'll start with that and move on to the dash afterwards (which probably means I should have a go at re-silvering the dash lights!).

Good luck. It's on the near side Ian. Cunningly hidden above the driveshaft and exhaust!

+1 on checking gearbox speed sensor first. Not hard to get out, and failure isn't uncommon. Taking clocks out the dash is certainly doable, bit pretty fiddly as plastics, connectors, ribbons etc... get pretty fragile with age. Good luck.

Was it only the speedo or did other dials fail at same time? if so, could just be the relay as that was caused this on mine

It was just the speedo.

Not got around to crawling under there to check further yet.
