Severe engine failure 150km's after a full rebuild has left me devastated, so i'm exploring options while the piston supplier does an investigation,
I'm looking for a 944S2 engine or block/crank cradle/balance shaft covers with (preferably) good bores,
Need it shipped to Sydney Australia (although can arrange my own shippng as I have family in UK)

Cheers

Steve

Some nasty photos for you

What pistons are they. And wouldn't it be easier to fit liners to your block?

Looks like the clearance was too tight. Sleeves may be the only way to go. Shame but I scrapped an S2 block for a similar reason, it must have run too long with a blown head gasket. ( not by me )
Too hot , too tight = pickup = death.

Think I read a while back Barry Hart saying he'd seen a quite few S2 blocks with damage at the bottom of the bores. With the shallower water jacket perhaps they need top clearance. Could be part of the reason 968 blocks have the piston squirters.

Had the bores been honed, rebored, we're they Porsche pistons. I ask because the engines had a special treatment on the bores, trick back in the 1980s. If it was damaged or machined away it would require retreatement. I remember been told that chrome piston rings were a definite no no.

yes, they were bored to 105mm, but done the correct way (with paste etc to expose the silicon)
they were aftermarket pistons, sold specifically for the 944S2, used the rings which came with the piston set
