My recently acquired 1988 924S runs hot rather quickly. A short ride into town, not much waiting in traffic, and the fan comes on and the temperature dial hits 3/4 of the way easily. Is this a worry and needs investigating? (I am considering a water pump swap and cooling liquid replacement) or am I being overly concerned?
Your help is as always appreciated by a noob :)

Temperature gauges are not particularly accurate, how does it read when out of town on the open road.

I would first check to see if it needs bleeding, is the heater hot? Then check the thermostat. Once you get into changing water pumps, you are straight away advised to change all the belts as they need to come off for a pump change, and costs are starting to escalate.

As already said. Low coolant level or not bled properly. Thermostat could be suspect as could water pump. Check coolant level and bleed when cold as a starting point. Inspect for water leaks if coolant low.
