Hey all!

So I noticed today (how I didn't before I don't know) that about a minute after starting up I have a loud high pitched whine from the engine bay at idle.

Haven't really heard it when driving only at idle.

But will properly check this tomorrow.

Any suggestions in the interim?

Thanks as always,

Mark

It's hard to say without hearing it but could be the balance shaft belt. They tend to be noisy if too tight.

If it was the balance belt it would increase with revs. Some balance belts are noisier than others. Mine has a bit of whine when cold but the tension is spot on and the belt is within its service window. Seems to be more and more common.

I'm sure I'll find out when I get someone to look at it ...

Hoping its a belt!

Thanks all,

Mark

Use a stethoscope - will locate part generating noise very quickly and obviously.

i have a whine - and it was one of the balance shafts, by removing the balance belt and running the motor the noice stopped dead - although this isn't a solution, but did highlight the problem.

unlikely to be a shaft, more likely over tight belt or a Conti belt
