Hi team, So drove car and after 5 mins it started to kangeroo jump, I heard an exhaust pop noise then lost all power from 60mph. I managed to coast into hard shoulder. Turned off car, waited 5 mins to collect thoughts on yet another issue with my car.....started her up again and she was good. Drove home very carefully. So quite lucky really. It felt fuel related but could not be sure....not feeling the love at the moment. Any thoughts on what has happened please? Thanks, M |

Exhaust popping noise suggests fuel in the exhaust, so either its not getting ignition or as weve already predicted the timing is out, this will include the valve timing which could well result in the valve being open during the compression stroke and pushing fuel into the hot exhaust. I hadnt realised you were continuing to drive a broken care, had I have know id had said not to until its fixed! Have you got a lambda sender? if you have then you ECU is going to be seeing all sorts of funky readings and subsequently doing funny things to the fueling Park it up and get that timing looked at asap |

Thanks..I had just changed the speed sensor only yesterday.....and wonder if this had had an impact. It did have intermitent starting for some reason. I have parked it up and will look at the timing......I do have a garage I could give it to.....but where's the fun in that?!  Maybe a few more weeks down the line I may well do this...been three months now with my problems of no power over 4000 rpmand really slow in getting there. mmm...... M |

I would replace the DME or at least try another one after checking timing |

I cant remember from your other post, but have you changed the ignition leads / plugs ect? Had a 944 turbo last year that struggled above about 4400rpm, turned out to be a toasted ignition lead. Misfires are generally timing related so I think you really need to be sure about that first. |

I have changed all leads and plugs..including TPS...will look at timing tomorrow morn. Will be looking at the TDC from underneath rather than the top, seems more accurate...bearing in mind the garage I bought from was 7 teeth out on the BS belts i am hoping they have applied the same logic to the main belt! |

OK... so checked timing. TDC marks were perfectly lined up on the cylinder and then checked under the bell housing and this was spot on to. Rotor arm is pointing to No.1 Cylinder.....looks all good to me. Have picture of top cylinder, see below. Can we rule out the timing now?

Now..I checked the balance belts as well...the top one was spot on but the bottom one was about 120 degrees off....it was spot on a couple of weeks ago......how has this moved?! M |

Also to add to the other comment, if you rotate the engine in the wrong direction when looking for TDC you can jump the teeth, you should never rotate the engine backwards |
