Hi all

In between waiting for parts to arrive for the on going clutch hydraulics replacement.

I thouught Would get on with overhauling my drive shafts on my 944 s2.

I have taken the near side drive shaft off and started the big sticky horrible clean up and noted some pitting on both inner bearing surfaces, one small area on each cv joint.

I thought that I had spares to cover this (bought from a well known motor factors) but alas they do not fit!

My question is can I clean up and swap around the original cv joints, so effectively the main wear will be shifted to opposing surfaces? Or is this frowned upon?

Both Cv joints have the same part no stamped on them.

Thanks for any advice

Regards

Mark

From memory S2 and turbo are bigger than the rest of the 944 range

have you tried Frazerpart? Think they do the CV kits and joints, if not try Partwerks.de

I think this is correct as the repair kit part numbers are different
944 - 944 331 901 00

S2/Turbo - 951 332 901 00

Yes you can swap the drive surfaces around without issue, give you time to save up

It’s not just the CV that wear it’s the splines on the shifts too

Try Bailey Morris for joints and possibly shafts

It’s actually recommended practice to swap drive shafts when having to replace a split boot on just one, since it evens out wear.

I observed this in the breach, since I had to replace boots about a year apart. When first side needed replacing, it seemed too much of a faff to take the other (good at the time) side out!
