Hi all,

I purchased a rear hatch boot seal for my 944 from the Porscheshop.co.uk.

I've fitted the new seal but there is about 5cm overlap (i.e. it is too long) - is it normal to have to trim it to length? I think I may be able to reduce it by a few mm by compressing the seal but not 5cm worth!

Just wanted to check I'm not being a wally before I start cutting it.

Cheers,

Oliver

I found exactly the same with the one I bought so you're not alone!

The one I got was a sealed circle, I needed to cut it to avoid removing the hatch supports but then found it was too long. I've not yet cut the excess off but before I do I was going to go round the edge with a rubber mallet to make sure that it's fully fitted all way round.

No don’t cut it

Fit the join first at the bottom of the hatch

Then fit the 4 corners leaving a equal drape between each corner
Work the seal into the corners push don’t stretch

Then work each of the 4 sides in the seal will compress :D

Thanks for your replies.

I managed to fit the seal without cutting anything. With one now under my belt I think I'd be much quicker next time.

Thanks all!

+ 3: just done it this morning. Thanks for the good advice!

Should be able to drive down to the Le Mans Classic in a couple of weeks without getting gassed by exhaust fumes! :D :D
