So i changed one of the little plastic plugs that are housed in the cam cover, quite a simple job and was done in an hour - most of the time was spent worrying about removing the fuel pipes.

Started her back up (new plugs too) and had a bit of smoke from near the lower manifold, Dad thought this was where the old oil was burning off (as oil was seeping from the plastic plug) so inspected everything and removed the water pump belt inspection rubber stopper (944 105 131 01) but as I removed it the lip perished and got stuck near the belt. I quickly stopped the car and before I could the bloody thing got dragged into the housing where all the belts are !!!!

try not to stress too much. The top part of the belt plastic belt cover is fairly easy to remove, you can then inspect the situation. Hopefully you've not caused damage to the belts and just need to clean out the bits.

Thanks, I managed to get the cover off fairly easy but can’t find the offending bit of rubber despite half hour of searching with a torch.

Still no joy so the flat-bed arrived today and it's off to Retro Restorer first thing for an inspection / general once-over.

Fingers crossed.
