Hi All...

Unfortunately my clutch needs replacing and I wanted to replace my rubber centre clutch disc with a sprung one (I have been told these are much better).

I can get it resurfaced fairly cheaply, does anyone on here have an old clutch disc lying around they want rid of ?

Its for a 1983 944 2.5 8v.....

I can highly recommend talking to a company called ClutchFix. They recently made up a custom clutch kit for me to go in my 924 V8, at a very reasonable price. They are very knowledgable guys worth giving them a call. They might even be able to make one up for you without an old one.

I would check if they can do the clutch cover as well. A new clutch cover makes a world of difference to the clutch actuation and can prevent problems further down the line.

They are expensive yes, but it's one job I wouldn't skimp on, given the ballache involved in changing it (around 10 hours book time) which is basically:

-Rear subframe/suspension off, assuming the bolts come undone easily ; they don't normally
-Gearbox and torque tube off
-Change the clutch.

The other way to do it is to take the engine out, which can be a mixed blessing.

I second that, having recently done mine on my on with only jack stands. Not for the faint hearted, and you really don't want to have to go back in there any time soon. Would end up more expensive in the long run.

Thanks I will look them ... I don't understand why the Sachs kit is sooooo expensive? More than most other porsche models!

This is getting frustrating...
Can someone help clear this up? I am trying to buy a clutch disc only not the full Sachs clutch kit. There are two designs rubber centre or sprung. I can find hundreds for 86' onwards but none for an 83' car....
Is the standard for that year a rubber centred one? I have been warned off these as apparently they fail much quicker?

Checking the cover by itself isn't easy. I've seen a "good" used but old cover go onto a new plate but slip once the power was applied. Thankfully, that was in a Triumph 2000 where the 'box is easy to remove.

On my 306 it was the difference between trying to press a rally clutch with two legs (I think my RS Turbo with a paddle clutch was lighter!) to me being able to press the pedal with ease and with a much smoother action, despite me lubing up hinges and changing cables beforehand.. Prior to that I used to say 'all 306s' are like that; my sister refused to drive the car with the old clutch despite it not slipping.

But it's your money and your choice.

I'd call up FrazerPart or Berlyn Spares, they'll be able to sort you out. Or even EMC Motorsport! What do Euro Car Parts sell?

I suspect all of the above will tell you what I've said above however with regards to just buying the plate, and I've not even mentioned release bearings going bad over time, which it is in my W124 :(.

Porscheshop.co.uk to the rescue again- always helpfull..

Just bought this : https://www.porscheshop.co.uk/porsche-m ... o-gt3.html

and at £239 a good price !

This is by far the cheapest by a long way incase anyone else out there does not need the full clutch kit...

It is also uprated (because race car).

Amazingly, it looks as though the donut is still intact. Thats the usual failure (was on mine anyway).
