I assume the thermostat has gone, even when turned on to cold my heating is pumping out very hot air, so much so that I had to travel with the sunroof / window both slightly open yesterday just to stop sweating !! How much should I be looking at for a new thermostat fitted ? Cheers. Ian |

Is your engine overheating, or failing to reach normal operating temp? Engine cooling and cabin heating are very different systems, so I doubt t-stat is involved. I admit to knowing nothing about 944 HVAC, but solution will lie in reading up on that system and testing relevant components. My knowledge limited to 928s where always hot cabin temp would be caused by: Failed cabin or external temp sensor Failed blending flap motor Failed slider pot/connection to hvac head |

Thanks guys. The engine temperature seems fine and the cars running sweet, someone suggested a broken clip / rod on the controller, this sounds possible, I was going to take it in to GT-one porsche in chertsey pretty soon anyway as the short-cut button for the window heating has stuck. Also whilst I’m here, it had frost on the inside of the window yesterday, I assume it’s common with a 29 year old car kept out over night ? |

The control rod clip does break. An often overlooked part is the vacuum operated actuator on the heater rail (coolant line) in the engine bay. If that actuator is broken, inoperative or is not having vacuum applied to it you'll always have hot air entering the cabin. IME a vacuum line can knock off it. To test put the car to to position no.2 Put the car to red hot on the climate panel and the rod should be fully extended. Then put it to fully cold. The actuator rod should go into the diaphragm and stop the flow of water into the cabin. |
