My 968 sport is poorly. :(
It sounds as though the original dual mass flywheel is at the end of its life and needs to be committed to the Porsche scrap heap. I’m looking to change it, but not for a dual mass necessarily.
The car will be used on the track quite often (this is what ended the flywheels life at Anglesey last month!) and I think a single would be better for this purpose. It should give better throttle response etc and I wondered if anyone had changed their’s in this way?

If not, is there any aftermarket dual mass products that would save a few quid as the OEM part is £700!!

Fidanza is the normal option, and I have found a place online that repairs DMF’s

Fidanza part number 199681 13.5lbs

I have a fidanza on my 944 turbo meaning I have the old solid flywheel, would it work on a 968? could be skimmed to make it a slightly lighter flywheel.

If you don't fit another DMF I think you'll need to fit an S2 crank pulley to compensate.

That's a pain given you had the clutch was done so recently.... IIRC Timinchorley had a similar query re the DMF earlier this year.... http://forums.tipec.net/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=22374&hilit=dual+mass

If you get the original Porsche part, don't forget to mention your Tipec membership at OPC to get your 10% off parts :wink: that might help the decision making :lol:

don't think a 944 flywheel will work as the ref sensor is in a different place

Thanks everyone.
I’ve found a Luk DMF on Amazon and although it’s £481, that’s still a £270 saving on the porsche cost.
Although we will be using the 968 on trackdays, it will still be mainly a country road blast/driving to the office on a Friday car, so I think the compromise in smoothness of a lightweight flywheel could be a no go.
Anyone have experience of these or any thoughts on the Luk DMF below?

The LUK DMF didn’t show up, so after a couple of phone calls it turned out not to be in stock anyway - cheers for the 3 week delay!!! Grrrrrr!
Anyway, it’s looking more likely that a re manufacturing of the DMF will be the way to go as I’m just too concerned from all the forum comments that a lightweight replacement will make town driving a nightmare and really take away from the enjoyment of driving 85% of the time it’s used.

I’m off to give dual-mass a call

So after ordering a new DMF from Amazon, waiting three weeks just to be told they don’t (and never actually did) have one in stock! Grrrrrrr :x I’ve realised these things are like hens teeth or rocking horse poop...... we are struggling to get hold of one. Thankfully the car seems to be running 95% fine at the minute, but I think one more track day could see it off.
The single/lightweight flywheel is a no go due to the compromise on ride, town driving, parking etc. I’ve spoken to a few more people now who have told me how difficult and unpleasant they make life off the track.
So, this left us with the remanufactured route as per the link above. We got in touch only to find out they are based in Poland. Cost is around £400 plus postage (we couldn’t get a figure for this) and the time off the road (wevalso couldn’t get details of how long it takes).
The end result of all this.........we’re still at square one!! Doh

If the S2 flywheel uses the same sensor arrangement or can be modified I'd pick up a used S2 flywheel and crank damper.

Quick google came up with this.Altho' the picture does not inspire confidence , the text talks of DMF so may be worth a phone call.Car parts for less are the discount side of eurocar parts.
