I got hit by a BMW this afternoon in a car park.
He admitted it was his fault and the insurance have got involved. My concern is that it will probably need a new wing ( As I recall they are about £700 from Porsche ) so will they write the car off?As it is a claim off the third party , am I able to insist it is repaired?
Value of the car is probably £5k so presumably if the claim exceeds £3k then it will go as a write off.Any knowledge or wisdom of these issues out there?

Oh blimey Toby, what lousy luck, was only saying to Jim on Tuesday that your car is looking great........................I am sure someone on here will have the info you need. I wonder if it would be worth a call to Classicline, they are pretty helpful people?

Oh Toby, that's rubbish. I hope you manage to get it sorted out without too much aggravation.

From my own sorry experience they will try to write it off as it's an easier/cheaper option for them, but when I got rear ended the assessor initially offered a write-off settlement of .... £600.00 . I quickly told him to Foxtrot Oscar to which his reply was "Do you know this car's history..?" and that - in a nutshell - it had already been the subject of two total loss claims.

Anyway - we had the obligatory flirtatious dance with each other and we eventually came to an agreed repair cost of £1600.00 and me taking the responsibility to get it done.

A decent bodyshop will be able to sort that out relatively cheaply so don't let the assessor (arse-essor) try and bullsh!t you..

Cheers

Greg

ps - did the tonneau arrive ok??

why do you say the value only £5k? that would be for a project S2 and if turbo the minimum value for a bad car would be around £10k, sorry I don't know which you have? going by the picture both the wing and front apron are damaged...perhaps both are repairable, only a body shop can answer that question...let's hope so, as a new front apron is a small fortune...good luck

Pete

Toby do you have agreed value insurance if so shouldn't be a problem. If not get a valuation from the club & start fighting your corner.

As Pete says, I think you're drastically undervaluing your car. I think you should get a valuation from the club asap.

Thanks for your responses guys.I had based my back of a fag packet valuation on Flea bay sales and the intergalactic mileage ( currently 253k ).However have now requested a club valuation to use as an opening gambit. It is not on an agreed valuation , as I did have one on a TR7 many years ago which proved to be pointless when it got rear ended and subsequently written off.
My insurers have started the ball rolling , so hopefully I should get some idea of whats happening later on this week.If the worst happens and it is written off , I will aim to buy it back and repair it myself.I think the front apron will spring back after removal and just need paint.

How good are those non genuine wings?Do they need much fettling to get a good fit?

Toby

If you allow them to write it off then the car will be worth dramatically less once it is repaired. You need to refuse to let them write it off and agree on an amount they're prepared to pay out to get it fixed yourself without it getting a cat C or D classification. I can't stress how important that is. A £10k car could be worth up to 50% less with a cat C classification regardless of how well maintained it is.

Toby

Sorry to read about your prang.

Your car is worth around £7500, the most important question is what do you have it insured for? Thats what the loss adjustor will base the claim against.

In your case Cat C or D will not make a great difference based on the above, you will take more cash than the cost of repair and lose when if you ever decide to sell.

Feel free to give me a call, happy to help

Sean

The TabCab bump is a real shame, sorry it happened while you were still running in!

Best wishes for a good outcome.

Is the damaged limited to the wing and a scratch bumper its hard to tell in that picture? I would think the value is present in the car to make the repairs cost effective.

The wing is creased and the valance is scuffed. The wheel is quite badly scuffed/scratched.Not sure the wing could be beaten out , but everything else would just need rubbing down and painting.
