Ive ordered the short shifter from only944 and I'm now trying to get a quote for it to be fitted, GT-one porsche have just emailed me back saying they have looked at the link picture and it has a modified connecting rod ?
Is this something I have to order separately ?
I thought it was a kit I ordered. It was the one on only944 for $93.
Thanks in advance for help

The one on the website is identical to the one I bought. Nothing else required. Simple to fit too! How much have you been quoted?

It takes about half that on a driveway!! You're not too far from me, I'll do it for a couple of beers if you want. I need to set aside a day at some point to do some 997 rear brakes amongst other things so can do it when it all the tools are out.

Yes the stay bar / rod that they also sell is tighter than the original which is a piece of flat bar twisted and it uses rubber bushed ends.
The only944 rod has tighter balljoints either end and the function of this rod is to move the input shaft in and out
(The gearknob's side to side movement) which when used with the rod will be less sloppy and loose than the OE one..

I've just ordered a new short shifter from them as the one I have is knackered after only 4 years, I didn't think to order the arm I guess that's something I better add to the shopping list.

Any idea how much this arm is ?

I've heard it makes the simple fit much more difficult unless the transmission is out..

I paid $117 for both items and shipping, + £29 import tax inc £8 post office handling!

The suggested method of fitting this stay rod is take apart each ball joint end which has a retaining clip on it.
I've got the early 924S /944 twin gearbox mounts and from only944's expected it to be a struggle, but for some reason
it was easy enough to get to without taking off the balljoint clips.

I'm not sure if the later type single gearbox mount makes it more difficult to get at? also I have a slim rear silencer
so this wasn't in the way either.

The only snag I had was the original bolt in the gearbox end of the bar sheared clean off!
So I had to make up a new stay for now which goes in the other direction...

This will be changed and revised asp, to an adjustable rod & Rose joints going in the correct direction
and connected to the another bolt on top of the gearbox close to the original.

Just ordered the arm, £42.23 inc shipping ex of any import taxes. My box should still be out of the car when this arrives.

I wish I spotted this before I ordered new rubber bushes for the original arm

I fitted this same short shift (Kyle's) a while back and it works extremely well. Billet machined in the USA - so no junk stuff.

The top link replacement isn't so important and if you do, it is more complicated to fit, unless you have the trans box removed, I still have the original on mine (944S2).

Loosening off the original linkages requires a bit of patience but straightforward, simple spanners etc. Using a compadre to offer assistance, like you have, is your best bet. I wouldn't actually trust this to a normal garage...
