I was hoping to get the car back Thursday so I could pop into my Restorers this week and let them come up with a quote for all the items. Crusty corners, peeling front bumper and newly dented wing.

I'll have to turn up to a club meet and see what the various cars sound like. Better than mine I suspect.

I did thrash it up Brooklands Test Hill on Sunday and you couldn't hear the exhaust note and rattle over the wheel spin. Determined to enjoying wearing out the Marshall tyres before autumn. One thing in their favour is that they light up easy.

  That's the way mate. Enjoy messing about in it before you get the bulk of the restoration done. I got a shock when i took mine in for a small tidy up and found both lower wings, the sills and a couple of other sections needed replacing.

Thanks Michael,

The grownup responsible adult inside tells me to restore it now. However, what I really want to do is thrash it until it breaks and the then start the restorations.

It's nice when it doesn't rattle. I'm finding once I've got rid of one rattle, I can then hear another one.

Here we are several months later and crusty corners gone. In fact I ended up having the whole car painted as I couldn't bear looking at all the chips, scrapes, dinks, badly painted repairs and strange dull patches.

Must remember to follow my own advice and not buy black cars. Especially if they are old.

Looks great except for the dreadful D90 Alloys. Tried to polish them and discovered they have a very light coat of powder paint applied by a school kid. Wondered why they were so dull.

Anyway, I love the look of Cookie Cutters, but realise this is an unobtainable dream on a S2. So would having the D90's repainted black with diamond cut rims be a good substitute, or is it best to have them repainted silver to maintain the stock look?

Final bad taste item I'm toying with is the rear Porsche decal. It was removed for the respray and I'm thinking I might try and get it reproduced in red. It can't be black and silver (I'm sure mine was white) is the only other colour and this sounds a bit dull. Is there someone out there who does a white one?

Now I'm off to thumb through the yellow pages to find someone who can spruce us the leather seats.

Oh yes, it still sounds like a transit van. I will get to the exhaust eventually.

It's your car and your wheels so go with whatever colour / style you want, if it looks good on the car others will like it. If you retain the D90's its only 24hrs and £300 to put them back to stock colour.

As for the decals, one of the members on here is in the business of decals for Porsches. He does exact replica's or can create unique ones as required. He did the turbo wing decal for my 951 colour matched to the wheels. They are metalic graphite btw not black.

I may have started the black D90 with the silver edge look, It gets my vote. Don't let the refurber lacquer the rim and leave it bare metal.
Plenty of polish preferably 3 coats applied at 24 hours between coats and never use a wheel cleaner should keep them looking good.

Thanks Sean,

You may well be right. I saw an image on the old interweb and thought that was the best way to go because I don't want to change the wheel sizes and mess up the great handling and feel.

I don't like the D90's. Dare I suggest they were cheaper to produce than the Cookie Cutters and Fuchs on earlier cars.

If the car is black, how about a black centre with a red rim?

That is tempting. Especially, if I get the rear decal in red.

However, I'm always a little wary of having too many colours on a car. It has a grey interior and adding a third colour may be too much.

This is mine after the sills, wing bottom repairs, new hood and repaint.
I was going to level the rear decal free, but after thinking about it I ordered a new decal in silver rather than the white, 944 s2 badge and bonnet crest from opc. The d90's are still in the original condition and have never been touched since it rolled out of the production plant! On the to do list is still the exhaust, but I'm in no rush.

Thanks for posting the pictures.

The hood looks good, but mine was changed only a couple of years ago so not going to fix something that's not broke.

Silver back decal looks good and probably the right choice for a black car.

However, I really don't like D90 wheels. I think I will try for the Sean look with black and diamond cut rims. Assuming what's hiding under the silver poster paint can be restored.

Thanks for everyone's input so far.

I got the wheels done Sean style. Gloss black with diamond cut rims. I will post some pictures when I've had a chance to clean car.

Very pleased with the look. Pays homage to Cookie Cutters and Fuchs and looks more modern than in plain silver.

Only problem now is that I will need to get a Taxi to the curb each time I park.

Next job is the rear Porsche decal. I got 2 red decals from Rob. Tried to apply one and failed. Will try again this weekend.

Once done it's fit the new doorcards and get the leather seats spruced up.

Photo taken. Onto the interior now.

Quick fix last weekend was replacing Alternator tensioner as bolt sheared. Note to self that I need not take on every traffic light challenge.

I also now have issue with central locking. Passenger door not working off remote. Locks on key and can hear locking working so I suspect that tiny plastic connector part number 477-837-506-A. Popped into local Porsche dealer to see if the Parts Department had it in stock or could order it and I got this response "have you made an appointment?" To see the parts guy, seriously. After waiting 10 minutes and declining various drinks from they're Baristas I decided I would leave and make use of the internet.
