Hi all. Wondered if anyone can shed some light on this. In the last two days my car has started cutting out/stalling. It only happens after at least 10 mins of driving, and then it is only when it's been idling stationary in traffic for at least a minute. Other than the stalling it runs perfectly, and actually seems to be running smoother recently than it has done.
Have replaced the DME realy for a new one, and it's still doing the same. Could it be FPR, or possibly alternator. Tends to happen more when I have headlights, wipers etc on and Amp guage is around 12v or less

Cheers

The voltage should be higher than 12 volts on the car even with the load of the lights, etc on. I would be checking to make sure your alternator is charging properly. It could be the ISV that needs a look at to make sure it is operating. Does it die suddenly or just gradually go?

Thanks for the reply. It tends to die suddenly. Never when there is any throttle. Only while idling in traffic.

Could be crank sensor.

Thanks for all the help. Have replaced the FPR, DME relay, and Alternator but is still randomly cutting out. Now it sometimes does it under acceleration. Sometimes I can drive it for an hour and it won't do it, and sometimes it does it after 10 mins. Any more thoughts appreciated.

Cheers

Try new flywheel sensors. Change both speed and position.

I had exactly the same problem - new reference sensors cured it . I also have a spare / upgraded reference sensor harness if needed - bouth it in the states from lindsey racing..

Thanks for the help. Will change the speed and crank sensors. It hasn't done it for a while, but did it tonight. Seems like it only does it when the lights are on and mainly after it's been sitting at traffic lights or junction for a minute or so. Have replaced dame relay, Fuel pressure regulator, alternator already. Thought it might be those. My other thought was the throttle position sensor.

before chucking more random parts at it double check the charging system, yes I did read that you fitted a new alternator but there is more to the charging system.

With the car running load up the charging system with the headlights and heater/ blower on max. Then put a multi-meter across the battery and check the voltage, and check it when not loaded as well (should be 13-13.6V). If voltage below 13V then you have an issue with the charging system and if it has dropped below 12V then this is probably the cause of your engine cutting out, either directly or indirectly. Don't trust the gauge they can read incorrectly, the one on my turbo under-reads by nearly 1V.

Thanks. Will check the charging system. If it is low, what other parts in the charging system could it be other than the alternator. The battery is about a year old.
Cheers

Update: Problem cured. Replaced the both reference sensors, and no more stalling/cutting out. Think they may have been the original sensors. The connectors were both very brittle and when pulled broke in the socket of the female connection. The car runs much more smoothly now, especially noticeable on decelaration.
Thanks to eveyone for their advice
