My car once warmed up seems to struggle to idle. It doesn't stall but it drops the Revs low enough that it should, then it picks up again to c1000 then drops again etc etc.

I thought it may be my idle control valve but expect this to be an issue from cold too? any suggestions welcome!

You might want to consider the throttle position switch. My 2.7 would often drop to a really low idle when warm and it would take a blip of the throttle or two to get it to the right place. Replacing the TPS cured it.

FWIW i recently stabilised my rough idle on the 924s by blasting out the breathers with carb cleaner. There's one of those 3-way bits installed like Mk1 Golfs have and it has a small orifice inside which was caked. Also gave the throttle body a clean out paying attention to all the tiny little tubes going here and there. It's better now and doesn't hunt like it used to.

also check the condition of the rubber hoses to and from the idle control valve. Mine had a split hose that opened up when the engine was warm giving a lumpy idle. When the engine was cold it would idle fine as the split stayed shut as the rubber was stiff.

You might try a pm to blackadder30 - has the opposite problem, that it's lumpy until warm. I think he suspects the DME relay.

For info I finally resolved this issue, I cleaned out the throttle housing which was really filthy inside, changed the coolant temp sensor and slightly tweaked the TPS while the car was running, instantly heard the correct position and seems to be idling perfectly now. Took it out for an hour run today and it’s never preformed so well.
