I bought a new car last weekend as a track-day car project. I've caught the bug and wanted something I can hoon around and have some fun in on track after getting a passenger ride in a Works built MG ZR race car. My budget though was quite limited but as if by magic this car appeared for sale and it tickled all my buttons. This car may offend some Porsche purists but it floats my boat, and if your a old school petrol head then it should make you smile. It's all my favorite types of car rolled into one, Porsche sports car + NA V8 power + a little JDM thrown in for good measure.......it's my pleasure (with a huge grin) to introduce you to the 924 GT "8 Ball".

What is it? It's a 1981 924 that has been significantly modified. It has a TVR derived RV8 3.5ltr running Edelbrok 4 barrel carb and intake, performance cams, flowed heads and performance exhaust. 944 (possibly turbo, but to be confirmed) transaxle, 944 turbo hubs and brakes calipers with brake bias adjustment, Spax coilovers. It has a Safety Devices roll cage, is partially stripped out and battery relocated to the rear with cutoff switch. And of course the body kit and 18" wheels. And it makes an extremely pleasing noise.

I like it and as a track car with the V8 engine it will be great fun.

When I saw the photos in the advert I thought the same, but in person they look pretty good. It might actually have a bit too much tyre but seeing as its got 4 nearly new Bridgestone Potenzas on it I'll not be changing them in a hurry.

Here's the business end. I have a bit of tidying up to do but at least I can get in about the engine bay.

Going to keep this thread as my main build thread now.

Waylander - the main install is very good, properly fab'd engine mounts, modified oil pan ect. but some of the finer stuff (in fact most of it actually) is somewhat less than good.

So, I thought I would do just a few jobs it and get her back on the road for the rest of the summer (or at least until the MOT due date at the end of Aug) however, things have taken quite a dramatic turn. Primarily due to the fact that I discovered that the cabin heater pipes were leaking quite badly and as they say 'one thing lead to another' and before I knew it I had her stripped bare. Fortunately I discovered the leak issue before I had refilled the cooling system, which was drained so I could remove the rad to refit the the cooling fans properly (they had installed puller fans on the front of the rad).

This has to be one of the worst possible designs for this application, 2 plastic flanges bolted together with just a couple of rubber seals to stop your cabin from being ruined, what were they thinking! Glad to see that the design was updated for subsequent models.

I had planned on redoing the interior and all the gauges as my winter project but..........

Having striped her out I've been able to have a good butchers at the butchered wiring loom, think I will be having a few headaches over the coming weeks sorting this mess out.
