Glad it's working out with the body so far but that is a serious project. I can see many visits to a breaker's and your local OPC in your future.

Please share photos of your progress, I'd be very interested to see how it all goes.

Right..here are a few photos taken last weekend just after the car arrived  (the earlier ones have all been taken by the PO for the eBay listing).

I think you can get a better idea from these shots of the task ahead. Anyhow, I have managed to get both front seats out and practically all the carpet, stripped the rear quarter panels out and fitted the hatch. It is starting to look a bit more like a 924 now. Fitting the hatch was a pain as the old hatch frame was rusted in place and the locking mechanisms were full of broken glass! But, perseverance does pay off and it is done... :D

To be continued...

The plant is not what you might call a 'factory fitted' extra..

Have ordered a couple of replacement sills from Brickwerks, and should be chatting to my mobile welder chappie this week, so progress is being made. More stuff to do this weekend I reckon, more photos to take for sure.

I've seen scrapped cars in a LOT better condition. Good luck with it and I'm looking forward to seeing the progress photos.

Well, did some more today (Sat). Here is a photo of it a bit cleaner and with a hatch!

Removed the centre console and took out the remaining carpet, as mentioned the floors looked good, but I knew that water had been underneath the soundproofing, so all that had to come off. It is a pig of a job, but easier with a heat gun..here are some photos as work progresses:

As you can see the floor is pretty good, I think I caught the corrosion just it time as the galvanising is just starting to go. Glad I decided to remove the old soundproofing. Probably about another half hour clean up on that section, then onto another! I have been using a rotary wire brush in the drill and some thinners - seems to do the trick. :D

Here is the 'vile' pile of carpet.. :?

The floor is good considering the amount of water and forna that was sprouting out of the carpet.

More news....decided on Sunday to take off a wheel or two to see the general condition of the suspension parts. I had a photo from the PO, but it was not too revealing. Here is what I found...

Yeah..pretty bad, but hit it with a jet washer and it looks a bit better!

So, a full rear suspension strip-down is called for - I kinda knew that was gonna happen.. (lots of fellow members have just done, or are about to complete this task). I have done it already on my 944S, so know what to expect!

As far as the fronts are concerned, I have just purchased new - strut inserts, lower ball joints, wheel bearings, caliper seal kits, brake discs, brake pads, and so on... So, the fronts will be a simple strip-down and get the parts powder-coated where I can, then re-assemble and fit - happy days

Also found two leaks, one was a drain tube from the sunroof, it had popped right off. The other was where a PO had drilled a hole in the top of the firewall to get a wire from the engine bay into the interior. Unfortunately, they decided to drill where the water runs (pure muppetry  ), so when it rains the wet stuff comes in. All sealed up now. However, I think I have a leaky door seal as a small amount of water is still coming in. I want to find all these leaks before I get any new carpet in there, so hunting this one down!

On the lookout for a complete set of brake disc covers in serviceable condition. Anyone got some please PM me, photos if possible too. Also will need a complete rear anti-roll bar setup - bar, brackets + bushes, drop-links and eccentric bolts. Again, anyone got these, please PM me. Condition is not so important as I will get everything powder-coated. Price is important though...

The saga continues...

i'm a bit far away but have a 14mm Rear ARB that I have just taken off my 944 and a set of used droplinks (rubber still seems in good condition but the metal is showing its age but would probably clean up well enough to paint). If you are interested PM me and we can work something out.

Wow Rhett - that's quite a project you have taken on there - can't wait to see the end results!!

Nice 924's really catch my eye these days, something delicate and clean about the narrow body.

If you need a hand with anything, give me a shout :)

One thing that's worrying me, the 924 is sitting where your 944 usually sits..... You haven't sold your 944 have you??

Hi Andy, good to hear from you. I still have the black 944S...! I have a bit too much (money, blood, sweat, tears..!) invested in that car to let it go just yet .

This new project is going to be a bit of a challenge, but it has potential - I think I might just indulge myself a little here and do some 'stuff' - nothing too 'out there' mind. We shall see, I have some ideas.... :D

Anyway, there has been some progress over the last week or two. I went over to Pie Performance and got some more bits. In fact it was the Saturday morning that some TIPEC guys were over there. I was the rather grubby-looking older fella rummaging around in the parts shelves! I was not aware that the morning had been organised, so it was rather unexpected. However, I managed to get a full rear anti-roll bar kit (all the bits) a couple of serviceable front brake backing plates, and Chris threw in some serviceable Porsche mats too...so a result.

More new stuff has arrived from various sources, so I now have a very large pile of 924 bits waiting to be fitted.

Did some more work actually on the car too. I finished cleaning off the floor pan, zinc spray and then tough enamel spray, so it is well sealed now.

So, it is looking a lot better in the cabin now. Next job will be fitting some bitumen/ali soundproofing panels (rattlemat style), then fitting some hand-made felt/rubber under carpets (after I have chased down the remaining leaks... ).

Should be doing some more next week..so I will keep the photos coming.
