hi all,

i was planing to re-paint these myself but now i've taken them off i've changed my mind. it seems a shame to scrimp the few quid for new caps when i've already spend 260 on a top notch re-furb. i'm thinking about selling mine and getting some new ones, prob something like this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PORSCHE-COLOURED- ... 240%3A1318

questions:

1. will all 77mm caps fit?

2. A lot of the ebay sellers call their caps 'Genuine Tequipment' is this OE porsche? what's the quality like?

3. how much do we think my old caps are worth, i'l probably ebay them but i might try a few VW forums first so i need an idea on price:

Have to say, mine looked about as bad as yours do, and I carefully put some black and red enamel paint on the relevant areas and they look pretty much as good as new. From more than a foot distance, I'd defy you to tell the difference between them and brand new ones.

In other words, I'd be saving my cash. But then I'm like that.

The ad you linked to suggests that the range of wheels those caps fit is quite large, so I'd guess that the answer to your first question is "Yes."

I've just bought a set of these:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0095061448

They are not OEM, but nor is the price at £34.95. :P

The last set of used OEM caps I saw on ebay in a worse condition to those above went for £22.00, so I'll be selling my originals for about £25.00 hopefully.

The upgrade to new caps will cost a tenner, so it's not worth buying paint and repainting my originals. :D

Get them painted! My originals were just silver. I rubbed them down and sprayed them with silver wheel paint. Then I went to the model shop and bought Humbrol paints in the little tins, and a thin brush. Sat at the dining room table and painted them. It was a bit of fun, something to do on a winter's evening, and the results are great. Unless I mention it nobody can tell they're hand painted - and the whole thing only cost a couple of pounds.

Rick,

I bought a set like the ones which you posted the link to. They were described as Porsche Techquipment, but were in plain boxes. However, the quality and fit are both fine and they are about half the price of a set of coloured caps from Porsche.
The silver and black ones are about £10 each.

Some caps are loose in some wheels. I suspect the key is genuine vs. non-genuine wheels. Personally I prefer the plastic concave ones with the crest in black and they do fit everything as they have springy tines rather than the not very springy ring.

I think I paid 26 quid for 4 of them a few years ago. Main thing for me though is not to gild the lily and I'm not really sure wheels need a coloured crest in the middle of them.
