I don't believe the car is overheating, but the gauge keeps slowly rising to about 3/4, holding for a few mins, then settles back down to the usual position (around 1st line). Is that normal for a 944 for the gauge to rise to that point and then the fans bring it back down, or should it always be at the same spot?

Clarks garage is your best bet. The gauges are quite "mobile" but there needs to be reason for it, traffic etc. Mine will go to 95 before the fans kick in.

^^^^^^^^^ as above, me too. Once up to temp mine will show anything
between 1/4 to 3/4 on the gauge as they are not 'programmed' to sit
in the centre like new cars. It does however relate to ambient temp
and how hard/fast I've been going.

This is after a new pump, coolant, thermostat, properly bled and the blue temp
sensor that sits at the front all being done.

Thanks guys. Sounds like it's fine then! It doesn't do it when on the motorway cruising, just with town driving after little blasts.

Sounds normal then :)
