Ok, so I promise I've tried to find previous discussion threads on this, but I've failed. . .

I"ve recently bought a 1987 2.5 8v, and filled it up tonight for the first time, putting in normal 95 RON unleaded. Is this what most people use?
I'm not keen to use 98 RON super unleaded unless there is a really good reason to, as it is so much more expensive.

Cheers, Howard

It'll run perfectly ok on 95,
I use Shell V Power but that's my choice

Sainsbury's SUL (97) should cost less in the long run.

The early cars say quite specifically a minimum of 97RON.

When rallying in the Highlands and various places in Europe I've had occasion to use 95 (and on a few occasions 92 and 88) and the car didn't like it at all.

I can feel a difference between regular 95 and premium fuel here in the UK too. I wouldn't say it hits performance or economy too much but it's certainly lumpier.

I only use super out of choice but, you know, whatevs.

98 I thought Ben, making Sainsbury's SUL the absolute minimum and Optimax/V-Power the ideal. I'd avoid Greenergy/Tesco whatever-they-call-it-now, although it works well for forced induction cars (but I still wouldn't put it in my Turbo).

You may well be right.

I swap between Tesco 99 and more premium products from Shell and BP. The Tesco 99 is fine but I've heard they're eeking up the vege content from the current 5% to 10% at some point in 2016.
