Just bought my first 944 a 1991 S2 in black. 1st water cooled porsche having previously owned a 914 (which I should never have sold). Couple of questions which may seem daft but should the rear wiper self park and where is the radio arial amp fitted. I'm getting next to no signal on the radio. I've checked that the arial is connected to the back of the head unit and I've found the connection to the windscreen which plugs into a socket with a thin wire coming out which disapears into the bulkhead. There is also a thin wire which is taped into the arial lead close to the head unit connection, should there be power to this wire or is it an earth?
Sorry if these are daft or amatuer questions but any help would be much appreciated.

cheers,

geoff

I believe the aerial is built into the windscreen, and the rear wiper should finish in an upright position above the motor. However im new to this too so may be wrong :)

Hi Geoff,

Welcome to the world of 44,s

The rear wiper should park upright, the aerial is in the windscreen, you should see a small wire going up the centre and down the drivers side if not you don't have an aerial :(

Hi Geoff, Will leave the radio stuff to Jim, Probably the conector has corroded. Hope the car is good. Post us some pic's :) Rear wiper is little use as it's set up for left hand drive. Taken mine off. If you need a motor give me a pm!

That's nice!
The aerial amp is at the bottom of the windscreen probably drivers side (RHD) it's a small black box the size of a matchbox. Follow the co-ax & it's black lead which is it's power source from the radio end.
Yes the wiper should self park, check the wiring at the motor. If it parks like most wipers, then when switched off one wire stays live (I think) that wire drives the motor to park. Favourite break points are where the wiring flexes.

Sorry Jim. Your just better at it than me. :) Probably should have said "What I know about car radios you can write on the back of a fag packet." Don't often listen to mine.

So the rumour goes

A mate used to have a T shirt which said something along the lines of "I thought I could bullshit well, but then I met you!" I now realise I'm in the presence of an expert so please carry on!"

Thanks guys, really helpful. Just taken some pics so will try to work out how to post later (off out for beer now).

My rear wiper works but just stops where ever I turn the switch off.
Is the arial booster on the outside under the bonnet or under the dash on the inside. I have the arial in the windscreen and have found where it connects but there is no sign of the co-ax cable on the outside in the engine bay just a small thin wire from the arial connection on the windscreen which disappears through the bulkhead?

thanks again,

geoff

I think it's under the dash from memory. I'll haul the manuals out tomorrow & look.
