Hello gents, wonder if anyone can help...

The speedo has died on my early 944. It started flickering a bit over the course of 50 miles or so and then nada. The milometer has gone too so the car isn't recording miles travelled.

So a quick look indicates one of two likely problems:

1) Broken speedo cable
2) Broken gear in the speedo drive

Does the flickering above indicate one being more likely than the other?

If not which is the best way to tackle diagnosing which one it is?

Cheers,

Ben
