I can relate to you here....I had just resprayed my car and i left a screw in the air box and ended up with a bent valve and scored seat. After I had recovered from the initial horror i spent £80 in the machine shop, got a head seal kit and I got it back on the road. Didnt cost me much as I did it myself, its not a hard job if you have the space and the tools. Dont get too down about it, just remember how good a car you will have when its all done.

Yes. Thanks, He said it would be around £100 if the head was ok. Not much on the bill really. Will probably have to pay that much for the head gasket. It's just it's off the road again. And I need it! :(

I'd do a dry/wet comp test before tearing it down. It maybe the rings haven't seated yet. How many miles has it down?

Bit of good news. Head is now finished & tested ok. Skimmed & fitted with new guides & seals. One new valve. Block cleaned up properly ready to fit. Just waiting for the head gasket so unless they come first thing tommorrow it's still off the road for the weekend. :|

Oldham engine center with the head. He's just loads cheaper than everyone else. But like GSF he souces genuine parts. Don't know the bill yet but it shouldn't be too bad. (He would have said.)

Head & gaskets arrived today. £200 Not too bad as the gasket set is the turbo one. Springs are ok. It was the guide that was tight. Not sure why. Hope that's it for awhile now. Just about rebuilt the thing. :( (Would have been cheaper to scrap it & start again. But at least everything's new now.) There's lots of marks in the chamber of No 1 cylinder. Must be the original head. It has a rebuilt bottom end from an early car. Should be on the road again by Monday! And the sunroof works :D

Well it did'nt smoke before. And that was the original damage. Must be why it had a rebuild. (Belt failure?) After another skim it's going to have too much compresion if anything. One plus. The chambers are only about 20 thou deep at the front (were there shallow) So the valves will be that bit less shrouded than before. Should be worth a bit more flow at low valve lifts. (In my dreams.)
