I was wondering whether all of the early 944 wheels like mine were leather or not. Mine has a small strip of leather (or at least it looks like leather) above the centre and some stuff that seems like glue as it's stubborn to get off so it looks as if the leather wore out and a previous owner ripped it off.

Anybody got a spare in this style?

Looks like someone has pulled the leather covering off yours - the stitching (around the inside diameter of the wheel) wears away, leaving the leather cover flapping about. Pretty easy to restitch (use waxed button thread). Except you haven't got the cover anymore... I have no experience of this, but you can buy replacement leather off the interweb e.g. http://www.eagleday.com/shknandbo.html. Or buy a complete wheel off ebay?

Will look into that, it's far from nice to hold at the moment so need to do something about it.

Leather was technically an option, mine certainly has it as an option code, having said that I've never seen a UK spec car without it so may have been part of the Lux package that us Brits paid through the nose for. Plenty of s/h wheels around as a lot of people take them off & put either upgraded Pork ones on or a Momo like mine.

Don't fancy upgrading to a momo or anything like that as I want to keep it relatively standard looking.

Spotted this one which looks alright but I've spent almost £100 on ebay already this week

I've taken several hours to re-stitch the leather round the rim of my wheel. One of the jobs over the winter is to put the original wheel back on.
Then my Momo will be offered up for grabs.

That wheel is non-standard anyway - early dash cars (pre 85.5) should have the 3 spoke wheel.

It looks like somebody has put a later wheel on. Mine's the same one but with the leather on, which has had to be restitched. You might find that these guys have a few of them http://www.douglasvalley.co.uk/ so they should be quite cheap. Also I don't think the floor mats are original equipment - but I might be wrong.....

Floor mats are far from original and have been flung out of the car.

Wasn't aware that the early models only came with 3-spoke wheels. Just as well it has been changed really as I don't like the original wheel ;)

May it have been an option on early 944's :?: Mine has the same style wheel and came into the UK in 82.

Pretty sure that the early 3-spoke wheel was a hangover from the 924 and went out with the oval dash upgrade of mid 1985.

That would be handy. All the aftermarket wheels I have seen I can't see working with the rest of the car. Momo seem to have made a bit of a poncy turn so I started looking and Sparco and things didn't look much better there.
