Hi peeps,

the diver's door mirror on my '86 944 is flopping around like a freshly landed trout, but I can't see how to tighten it up. I can't see any removal screws other than the one that holds the assembly to the door. I can't find anything in the workshop manuals. How does one get the mirrors off?!

I'd like to get this sorted before the whole thing comes apart and falls off the car. I don't really want to resort to doing a bodge job with silicon...

From memory there's a little slot underneath where you can insert a small flat blade screwdriver and flick a tab that locks the mirror glass in place.

Actually I'm not sure if you're talking about the whole unit or just the glass!

If you want to get the whole unit off or tightened it is held on by one screw. You need to push the 'flag' part of the mirror assembly towards the front of the car to access it. Be ware if you are removing the whole assembly to replace it that the wiring is a bit tricky.

if it is just the actual mirror that is lose there is a small slot in the bottom of the black surround in to which you can insert a screwdriver to open or close the catch that holds the mirror to the mechanism.

I think there is a decent section on mirrors in Clarkes Gargage workshop manual (google it and save the link)
